One of the best ways to boost performance is to use a nice external drive such as a Seagate IronWolf. It’s not only great for video footage, but Photoshop as well. I have an IronWolf external SATA drive and I’ve had one since 2012. I can write 4TB of stuff on it, and people I’ve introduced to the SSD world think it’s SUPER fast. I’ve never run into any issues with speed, and I use it as WW2 era troops under war time conditions… for Photoshop, not for video.

Personally I’m not a fan of the ‘Smart Preview’ feature since anything not opening 100% (no matter size, color or resolution) gave me a headache and kept me from using the program. The whole ‘Image Cache’ is also a drag and as for the ‘Smart Sharpen’, it seemed to help more than hurt.
