Photos and Photoshop are two of the most popular programs in the world. While both are easy to install and use, Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements require different versions of the software. So, if you only have one version of Photoshop, you’ll want to buy the other one. But, how do you know if you have the right version?
The easiest way to identify the version of Photoshop you have is to go to Adobe’s website and find the version of Photoshop you want to use. If you follow the link to the Adobe website and select the version of Photoshop you want, it will tell you the download and installation instructions. The next step is to download the software. Open the file you downloaded and follow the on-screen instructions. When the installation process is complete, you’ll be able to launch the software and use it.
Moving forward, I’ll continue to use and test new features in Photoshop and to pester Adobe with questions about improvements. Given that editing video is a major focus for them in 2014, I’m curious to see how they tackle the wide color gamut live action camera market. Wider color gamut is a requirement for many HDR photographers, and Adobe is not doing too well in this area. My hope is that we’ll see extensibility to the DisplayP3 feature at some point.
After investigating all the major auto-correcting plug-ins, I decided to look just how fast they are. I used Candy to test them all, and ran each on an image that has been auto-corrected by Adobe Bridge 4. The results were quite interesting, and I’ll be documenting my testing in a series of new videos I’m calling “Photoshop Plug-in Run Time.”

You can use Layer Masks to protect areas of your image so you can easily apply effects to small sections only. Free or simple editing software like Lightroom or Ditching can accomplish some of the same tasks.
What It Does: The File command brings up the File pulldown menu, which allows you to save or save, render or export your image. The Edit menu includes commands to rotate, crop, and straighten an image. Also in the Edit menu are commands to open, save, and reload documents. The same options exist from the same menu on the main screen. The History and Presets menu gives you the option of viewing previous state versions of your image. The browser window is used to navigate the Web. The E-mail command opens up a new e-mail message with the image attached. The Edit menu includes commands to Healtp, Lower Animate, and proration.
What It Does: The Crop tool allows you to select a rectangular area of the image and crop it to your desired size. You can also drag the corners of the selection to resize the area. The Crop tool also includes a Hold Crop option so you can temporarily resize your image. The Fill tool is similar to the Paint Bucket tool in that it accepts a color and fills the selection area (a.k.a. the foreground). You can apply a specific gradient to an area using the Gradient tool.
