The Chinese might be underrated when it comes to cinema, but it seems that they’re starting to put up some bloody good cinema in recent years too. The two local TV channels made and uploaded it on their own website earlier this week. The song, however, is from Kalyanji Anandji’s 1983 film, Dostana. The film released around the same time as Neebaa Da. Black Coal, Thin Ice is a local production and it’s been screened a few times in China in recent years. There was a time when the film found its way into movie theatres.
In 2005, its movie theatres in China were all pulled down. It’s still in the cinema today, and has a history of playing it’s screenings in the (Chinese) “Bada” section, which is reserved for home video. It’s then-directors Xu Yan and Lyu Jie used to show it in Shanghai’s Cinema City – Laoma, Hong Kong. The pair – Xu working in Hong Kong, Lyu working in China – gave the following interview to Film Business Asia.
In “Iron Man & Hulk vs. Black Coal, Thin Ice”, Chinese writers and directors Xu Yan and Lyu Jie came up with an original story and brought Iron Man and Hulk to the sea of China.
Lyu Jie: When we first heard that Iron Man and Hulk were to battle in the ocean, our first impression was this is exactly what Iron Man was looking for. It doesn’t feel like a Chinese production. It does feel like it could easily be made in a Hollywood production. In the name of the film, we have Iron Man as one of the directors of the movie. The story takes place in China, and we were sure Iron Man would know all about that. The story, however, is based on the original story by Xu Yan.
Xu Yan: After Iron Man & Hulk vs. Black Coal, Thin Ice was finished, we went to Shanghai first and staged a press conference.

“Forbidden Kingdom” is a new Chinese animation series produced by Shanghe Animation Studio and 7th Sky.
It was first aired on January 19, 2013 on Dragon TV, and later on Animax.
The first season has 20 episodes, and it has received a total of 1.3 billion views on Sina Weibo.
