I’m not going to lie. I’m still having a hard time processing all that happened this past week. It’s been a while since I’ve had to process a similar level of grief. For a long while, I was so focused on what happened that I was depressed. I couldn’t see anything but the image of an empty chair and a blank screen. It was all I could think about.

In the midst of that, I kept finding myself thinking about all that my sons are going through, and even though none of them were there, I wanted to be there for them.

It took a lot of time and a lot of effort to get back into the swing of things and back in the habit of doing normal things that I normally do, and I still haven’t come to terms with how terrible it is that my life is being destroyed.

I’ve always been so independent. I can’t help but think that I’m being selfish, when I should be trying to help my family. But it’s not that easy. I keep thinking about all the things I need to take care of and the things I need to do for my family.

I feel selfish because my heart is being torn apart with feelings of helplessness and rage. But it doesn’t stop there. I feel guilt. I feel like I let them down, because I wasn’t there for them like I said I would be.

It’s a very frustrating place to be, and I just try to breathe, as deeply as I can, and not think about it too much.
